This Mediacal Laboratory Science course is designed to satisfy the increasing demand from students who wish to pursue a career in Applied Biology, Bio- Technology or Bio-Medical Science or continue their studies to degree level in the Sciences.

Year 1
Physiology of Cellular Systems in Animals, Neurophysiology and Homeostatic control of the Human Body, Laboratory Techniques, Microbiology, Cell Biology 1, Biochemistry of Macromolecules and Metabolic Pathways 1, Analysis of Scientific Data and Information, Chemistry for Applied Biologists 1, Chemical Laboratory Techniques 1.
Year 2
Cell Biology 2, Biochemistry of Macromolecules 2, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Infectious Diseases, The Immune Response System, Applied Genetics of Industry Agriculture and Medicine, Medicinal Chemistry, Project for Applied Science, Chemistry for Applied Biologists 2, Chemical Laboratory Techniques 2, Environmental Monitoring and Analysis (subject to change)

Offers of places on year 1 of Medical Laboratory Science are subject to the following conditions for candidates:
· Leaving Certificate
Leaving certificate students must have achieved a minimum of a O5 grade in ordinary level Mathematics and a minimum of a O3 grade at ordinary level in one of the following leaving certificate subjects, Biology, Chemistry, Home Economics, Agricultural Science, Physics & Chemistry.
· QQI level 5 award.
QQI Level 5 Laboratory Techniques (5M3807) students must have achieved a full level 5 QQI award containing a Distinction in Laboratory Skills, a Merit in Mathematics and any other 4 Merits.
QQI Level 5 students from a related award must have achieved a full award containing a Distinction in a science based subject and five merits.
- Mature students
Mature students (over 21) who do not meet the minimum academic requirements but who can demonstrate the ability to successfully participate on the course will be considered.
Laboratories, Hospitals, Food Manufacture and the Pharmaceutical Industries. Students may also use the course for entry to degree courses in Science in Ireland or abroad or they may wish to pursue further study in the areas of Toxicology, Bio-Technology or Quality Control in Food Production.

9 of the 2016 graduates gained advanced entry to year 3 of the B.Sc.(Level 7 degree) in Biomedical Science at the Institute of Technology Sligo. B.Sc. (Level 7 degree). Biomedical students that complete year 3 may progress, subject to satisfactory progression grades, into year 4 of the B.Sc.of the Medical Biotechnology level 8 degree.
Students can also gain advanced entry to D.I.T. and other third level institutes. Students can apply for advanced entry to all Irish Universites and Insttutes of Technology. Successful students can gain advanced entry to Biomedical Science at the University of Wolverhampton and the University of Ulster.
