BA (HONS) DEGREE TOP UP IN ANIMATION at COLÁISTE DHÚLAIGH (CDCFE)
Coláiste Dhúlaigh will run a one-year part-time BA Degree course in Animation. This is awarded and accredited by The University of Wolverhampton and will commence in September 2014.
The programme is a joint collaboration between the University of Wolverhampton, the ETB and various representatives from the indigenous animation industry. Its aim will be to fulfil Wolverhampton's BA learning criteria and satisfy the demands of industry, so that graduates will be ready to begin work upon course completion.
The course content has been designed with the input of industry representatives and will be led by highly experienced animation professionals.
The course will run on a part-time basis, two evenings and one day a week over one year. Formal classes and workshops will be on Monday and Tuesday evening between 5pm-9pm and a Friday Afternoon between 1pm-5pm.
A considerable amount of work is expected to be completed outside of college time, however students will have access to their own resource room with computers and other facilities during college opening hours.
A large portion of the coursework will be based on a major year-long project, into which a number of modules will feed. Instead of limiting this to a short film, students’ will be given the opportunity to specialise in an animation related discipline of their choice. For example a student could negotiate a project to solely work on storyboarding or 3D Modelling, 2D Harmony/Flash animation, Maya/3DS Max animation, After Effects compositing etc.. The bulk of the course will be self-directed, It is expected that students having completed a HND2 and/or gained industrial experience will have a working knowledge of software, and will be capable of working independently with guidance from the course tutors. A significant number of guest lecturers will however provide practical workshops and lectures throughout the year. These sessions benefit all modules on the course.
Students will be required to work as interns with an animation/games/design studio during the course of the academic year. Relevant work experience will be essential in all BA students’ professional development and necessary to fully engage with the programme.
The course fee will be approximately €3,500 (payable in three instalments).
