Employability Skills & ESOL Course (part-time)

Employability Skills Level 4 (4M0857 )

BTEI means Back to Education Initiative. BTEI gives those in receipt of social welfare the opportunity of returning to part time education, while retaining their benefits.
For those not in receipt of a social welfare payment there will be a course charge of €50.

Course Description:   

This course is for adults whose first language is not English. Applicants must be at lower intermediate level or above (ie Cambridge level A2-B1), or already have a certificate in ESOL QQI Level 4 (4N1180).  Language testing will apply for new applicants.

 This course has a strong ESOL focus, with English language progression at QQI level 4, QQI Level 5, and optional Cambridge certification in Year 2.   

This course aims to develop the knowledge, skills and competence needed by speakers of other languages to enter the workplace in Ireland, and/or to progress their education in Ireland. In addition to English language, this course builds on self-confidence, interpersonal skills, intercultural skills, job finding skills, and other important workplace and work practice skills. Students will also complete a 60-hour work experience placement.      

Course Content

Year 1 – Half Award (4 modules)  

  • ESOL Language QQI Level 4 or QQI Level 5 
  • Communications  
  • Understanding Interculturalism  
  • Personal Effectiveness  

Year 2 – Half Award (4 modules) plus optional Cambridge Exam 

  • ESOL QQI Level 5 or Entrepreneurial Skills  
  • Career Planning  
  • Mathematics  
  • Work Experience (60 hours)   

Entry Requirements

A basic level of IT skills is required, e.g. familiarity with Microsoft Office 365 etc.   

An offer of a place on this course is provisional. A language test will apply to new all new applicants.

Certification

Employability Skills with ESOL Level 4 (4M0857)  

Year 1 Half Award (4 modules) 

Year 2 Half Award (4 modules) – plus optional Cambridge Exam  

Progression

Students who are successful in 8 modules can progress to a full award at QQI Level 5, or to one of our Traineeship programs. ESOL tutors will support and guide all ESOL students as to what courses may suit their ESOL and/or general learning needs.
