QQI Award (Level 5 – 5M15960), Higher National Diploma, BA (Hons)

This three year course provides a comprehensive study of the communication and media production business. The course is conducted in a relaxed yet stimulating environment and has both practical and academic dimensions. Students can gain “hands on” skills and emphasis is on production of high quality media. Access to the most modern equipment enables students to reach professional production standards.

Course Content

YEAR 1

TV Production, Digital Photography, Radio Production, Digital Editing, Media Studies,

Intercultural Studies, Computer Graphics, Work Experience, Communications.

YEAR 2

Film Studies, Sound Design for the Moving Image, Practical Radio Skills, Digital Video Editing,

Studio TV Production, Photography, Studio Music Production, Research Techniques.

YEAR 3

Specialisation in Sound Production or Television Production.

Sound Modules include: Computer Game Sound Design, Radio Documentary, Radio Drama,

Music Production, Project Development, Multitrack Recording and Audio Post Production,.

Television Modules include: Film and TV Documentary, Editing, Audio Post Production, Work

within the Digital Environment and Project Development.

PLUS

Contextual Studies Dissertation, Special Subject Investigation abd Work Placement.

Certification

QQI Level 5, Higher National Diploma, BA (Hons).

Duration

3 Years

Entry Requirements

A genuine interest in the field of Media, Leaving Certificate (including LCA) and interview (with portfolio). Previous Media experience will help your application but is not absolutely neccessary. Mature Students are also actively encouraged.

Progression to the final year of the BA (Hons) Media, at the University of Wolverhampton, University of Central Lanchashire and a number of UK Universities. Completion of this course qualifies you to apply to complete the BA Hons in Film and Video Production in Coláiste Dhúlaigh. More details on the BA Top up year are available here.

Top Up Degree
